This cake — my 30th birthday cake — has apparently been a year in the making. Credit goes to my mom, Sally, my sister, Jaci, and my brother-in-law-to-be, Jason, who pulled off this fondant masterpiece in less than a day:
Mom (loudly) declared, “Jason worked on yer boobs!” right when I got my first chance to see the cake. He clarified, “I tried to fix your cankles, and I put the cat scratches on the couch!”
(He also tried to help me avoid National Geographic boobies — a good man!)
My sister made the extremely detailed couch over a foam mold my dad created, and I now know that Mom has been learning fondant techniques over the past year all in the name of making *this* cake! The detail was amazing… the cat sitting next to me on the couch is Miss Kitty, and all of the cats had little fishing line whiskers. There were tiny mice and a goldfish in a bowl, and I was seated on the couch with a big, floppy hat, a cell phone and a camera.
It was the most amazing birthday cake — (tasted great too!) — the sweet topping to what had to be the best birthday I’ve had to-date!
THANK YOU to everyone – family, friends, kids and dogs — who was able to come and help me celebrate 30 years of breathing with yummy homemade pizza, an outdoor movie and so much laughter and love. You all truly made this an amazing and memorable birthday!
