I’m sitting on my bed with chilly toes and a warm left hip. I took both cats to the vet today, and after that appointment Ben went back home with Mom while Miss Kitty and I returned to my house. Sean and I went to see Burn After Reading tonight at the base theater, and now that I’m home and writing snail mail to some friends Miss Kitty has decided to show her appreciation at being returned to “only cat” status by being exponentially sweeter than usual — she’s curled up right against my leg, purring. I love it!
Overall, today was a VERY productive day… I had a quick court thing this morning (not to be delved into at this point), and afterward Janice and I grabbed coffees at Starbucks and ran into Michaels for some knitting supplies. I was on my way to the laundromat, but Janice swooped in like a superhero and offered the use of her super-duty washer and dryer for my king size comforter. Thanks Janice! So, rather than sitting in the super-sketchy local laundromat I was cleared up to run other errands — Target for miscellaneous stuff, Chick-fil-a for lunch, the gym for membership renewal, Jo-Ann Fabrics for buttons and Shoppers for groceries. Home in time to meet Mom and gather up the kitties for their trip to Park Vet, where both passed with flying colors although Ben needs to lose a minimum of two pounds. (Good luck Mom & Dad – be strong! You can do it! Don’t give into his piteous cries of hunger!)
Also crossed off my list? I’ve written a check to purchase a piece of art that I’ve loved and coveted for at least three years (click here and then select Imaginary Landscape #1. Then jump up and down and say “Yay!” for me about six times!); written two letters to friends; created sorted piles so that I can file, wash, pay and clean; tried on a pair of 5″ patent black leather hooker heels; caught up with all of the items in my Google Reader; had a quick dinner with Sean before the movie; gave my mom a surprise gift; and refilled the water in both my humidifier and MK’s fountain.
Just heard on TV: “Cookies and porn? You’re the best mom ever!” HAHAHAHA
I never thought I’d really understand how Dad can be busier now, as a retiree, than he was when he worked a full-time job in addition to all of his other interests and hobbies. After today, I totally understand. Because if I could somehow win a month of not having to work, I am fully confident that I could fill every waking hour with productive and purposeful, list-crossing-off activity.
In fact, if I’d had a few extra hours today I probably could have baked some banana mini morsel bars and sugar cookies; cooked dinner instead of eating out; scrubbed my baseboards; read a novel; started or finished a knitting project; vacuumed my drapes; gone through my Utah photos (eep! I haven’t forgotten, I swear!); polished my silver; re-tiled the floor in front of my fireplace; photographed and packed up the next few boxes of stuff to go to Vintage Values; paged through a computer tutorial on how to speak German; taken inventory of my pre-purchased gifts; mowed my lawn; pulled up the corn that is growing in my front garden; scrubbed my shower walls and my three toilets clean; organized my stationary; washed my Vera Bradley purse; returned the Disney DVD that I bought only to realize that I already owned; dusted the ceiling fans; planned a dinner party…
Are you bored yet?!
Miss Kitty is all curled up around her hood (e.g., elizabethan collar), with her tail is spilling over the edge so the tip can rest on her forehead — so freakin’ cute! And since I don’t have a million hours, a clone to help me out or the promise of retirement on my horizon, I’d better hit the hay so that I can be useful tomorrow.
