During the Jousting Tournament at the Maryland Renaissance Festival, armored knights on horseback held wooden lances and galloped toward one another, trying to earn points by either hitting the other knight squarely on the chest or by knocking them off their horse. After several passes back and forth, the knight pulls his horse next to a page standing on a box, and the page helps the knight out of his chest plate and helmet.

Interesting photos–it looks like quite a show.
I love Renaissance Festivals. I went to one in central Ca assuming it would be a few booths and a guy in weird clothing. I was completely thrown aback by the utter size of the world these people had created. Made a girl want to go back in time.
I hope you dressed up!
LOL No, unfortunately while I’ve gone several times I’ve never gotten so involved as to get dressed up… We went on the last weekend it was open this time though, and people were so confused! We followed Storm Troopers/Intergalactic Cops, saw Snow White dancing to bagpipes and passed Tigger. Any excuse to wear your Halloween costume twice in one year?! (We did see our fair amount of Renaissance wench boobies and men in velour tights & too-short shirts too, don’t you worry!)
I love that people wore Halloween costumes!
When I went I was with a family that were DEDICATED to Renaissance Festivals. They actually had chests full of clothing. I was in like 5 skirts, I had a corset, the little corset cup, I had a dagger, a belt with a goblet, and they even braided flowers into my hair. It was WILD.
You’ve got to love Renn Fair men in super tights! Any excuse for a little escapism right?
