This morning on my way into work, I pulled into the parking lot of the local volunteer fire department — otherwise known as The Place Where I Shall Cast My Ballot. After having read about other people’s experiences with waiting in horrendous voter lines, I must say that I am once again reminded that sometimes it is nice to live in a less urban area! This was my voting experience today:
Pulled into the parking space, pulled the handbrake and grabbed my purse. On the way in, a woman standing out beside her car in the parking lot thanked me for voting today and offered me a sample ballot. She did not bash me over the head with a candidate’s sign or urge me to cast my vote for a specific someone running for the Board of Ed. She also did not stuff my hands full of pamphlets that I would inevitably not read. Things were looking good!
I walked in, gave the woman at the registration desk my name, confirmed my address and birth date, signed a slip of paper and was escorted by a quiet, elderly gentleman to the voting computer. I inserted my card, paged through the ballot, confirmed my choices and received the ejected voting card. My voter escort swapped out that card for an “I Voted” sticker, and as I walked back out to my car I was thanked, again, for casting my vote.
Estimated time at the polls: less than 6 minutes. Boo yah.
Coming Soon: A recap of a fantabulous weekend, complete with a Cirque du Soleil show, copious amounts of baking, and a Halloween Party!

Yay voting! I voted via mail-in-ballot, but am really looking forward to a) the results and b) the political ads to be over!
