Good morning World — Today is May 23 and I am officially 29 years old!
(Whoo hoo! These damn 20s are almost over!)
Yesterday I had a fabulous lunch with my co-workers, and today (after letting the dogs out, and feeding all the furkids) I fell blissfully back to sleep for a few hours — well, blissfully asleep except for the text messages going off on my cell phone with birthday wishes.
I’m going to make myself a nice breakfast, mow the yard, take a long shower, write that damn letter*, and meet up with Courtney to take the pups for a walk at Greenwell State Park. As the icing on the proverbial birthday cake, I’m going to stop in at Baskin Robbins with my Birthday Club coupon and get a free cone, and Mom is going to come over for dinner (rockfish!) and movies.
This agenda may seem well, boring, to some. But I’m completely at-ease with my selection of birthday activities. There is a small part of me that wishes Denise were still in Maryland, because I’d love to go out dancing with her!** But truthfully, this year I’m saving up all of my “going out” energy for Chicago! I leave in one week, and get to spend an extended weekend with Jamie! On the list so far? A roller derby championship and a comedy show. And a bar. Definitely a bar!
So, this weekend can be… easy. This weekend can be methodically cleaning the house for the arrival of the grandparents, writing letters, watching movies and snuggling with my furkids.*** This weekend I can become a little more rested, a little less frustrated, and a little more smiley.
I’m going to take Today and just going enjoy it, celebrate it as being My Day. And that sounds like the best birthday-day I could possibly have!
* I have been procrastinating on the topic of picking a publisher to send my children’s book manuscript to, but I promised Nevin a draft of said letter by um, today.
** And if Denise wasn’t suffering from a double-ear infection brought on by her suck-it-to-the-moon job managing rooms of linoleum lizards, I might be tempted to make another trip to Maine just for said company and a trip to the brewery I didn’t get to go to! Miss you guys!
*** Uh oh… I’ve been here at M’s for so long that I’m starting to refer to Kelsy and Dakota as ‘my dogs’…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEN!!!!!!
Happy birthday, beautiful wanderer!
I just found your blog by chance (wandering around), and ejoyed it. It’s going into my favorites.
No fuss, but nice just the same.
BTW, I had one of those (b-day similar to yours) on 12th.
Have a nice, safe and fun trip next week. I’m looking forward to reading more.
